Group Ride This Weekend!

Hey folks!

Super excited to let you all know that I’ll be going on a group ride this coming weekend! I’ll be riding with family and friends from Dublin to Sacramento to who knows where to next. This group ride is technically my first, I’m not counting my ride with my sister and brother a while back since it was my first time riding.

In the past I tried to get in on some group rides but they never happened. After this coming group ride, I’d love to a lot more group rides under my belt. To do that, I’m planning to hit up a forum that I frequent and look for local meet ups.

Ninjette.org is a site that I frequent that is made of a community of Ninja 250cc and 300cc riders. The folks at ninjette.org are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable that I’m looking forward to hitting up the forums on the site to see when the local group ride will be.

Another way that I’m going to get more involved in group rides are by attending meet ups in the area for fellow motovloggers. Every now and then motovloggers get together to meet in person, network, build relationships, shoot the shit, and most importantly, ride. With summer almost here, I’m sure to find a motovlogger meet up soon.

That is my plan for now on getting getting more group rides under my belt. I’m positive that in time I’ll be able to getting in more group rides, whether if it’s with my family, friends, and/or strangers, I see a lot of group rides in my future.

Future Sailor No More

Yup… I backed out of my contract with the Navy.

A few days ago I have made my decision to pull out of the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) with the Navy. Making my decision was not easy, honestly I am still disappointed at myself but it is something that I will have to live with. I am disappointed because enlisting in the military is something that I have wanted to do since I was young and my heart is still telling me to go. However my head is telling me that I have to be an adult and make a smart decision.

Finances are the main reason that I backed out of my contract. I had a contract with the Navy where my rate would had been AECF (Advanced Electronic Computer Field) and learned the ins and outs of computer electronics. The schooling for the job would have been six to eight months on top of two months of basic training. While at basic and A school, I would be losing roughly a third to half of my current income. Even though there are almost no expenses while at training, I still had responsibilities that I have to take care off such as rent, student loans, credit cards, insurance, etc. Even though there I had options on handling my finances, I did not want to defer my student loans, nor pay the minimum balance of my credit cards, and did not want to become a financial burden to my girlfriend while away on training.

If I went to the Navy, after schooling I would had either went back to the job that I had before leaving for basic or start a new career in computer electronics. There were no guarantees that I would had found job in the civilian world in computer electronics, if I would had landed a job within that field then it would more than likely had been at an entry level position. If I did go back to the job I had, it could set me back on my career as well as stunting my growth with the company. Also that means the skill that I learned would had turn into a hobby, which is an expensive investment just for a hobby.

A few years ago I graduated with a bachelors degree in Interior Design, currently have a job that I love that pays decent, and I am establishing my career in design. I am at a point in my life where I can make something of myself instead of starting over fresh. If I went with the Navy, I would had enlisted as an E3 (Seaman (SN)) since I had college degree. Enlisted service members with no prior college credits or degree would normally start at the lowest rank of E1 (there are ways to enter basic as an E2). Even though E3 is not the lowest rank, I felt that I would be selling myself short since I have invested in myself by going to college and getting an education. Taking a huge pay cut as well would definitely be selling myself short, literally.

As an adult I had to make the right decision and that decision was to not set myself back in life by taking two steps back to take one step forward, which is what I would had done by enlisting with the Navy.

There is nothing wrong with enlisting with any of the military branches, I just decided to enlist at the wrong time and wrong stage of my life.

WWR: Insomnia & Production

It’s fifteen till four, the shades are down so I can’t tell if the sun is ready to be awake, and I’m sitting in front of the keyboard mashing away like a keyboard warrior that is armored by a single piece of chonies.  In a few hours I have to be awake, teeth brushed, coffee drank, and out the door running up the hill to catch the train to work.

Not getting a lot of sleep is something that I am accustomed to, averaging 4-5 hours of sleep. lately my average is slowly dwindling down to 2 hours. Just yesterday I went to bed before four but was up by 5:30. Tonight, or should I say this morning, I am going to bed after four with hopes of getting at least three hours of sleep. When people find out that I don’t sleep much, they wonder how one can function with the lack of sleep. I wonder that too. Does the lack of sleep reduce the quality of work that I produce, attentiveness at meetings, and producing work efficiently?

I’ll tell you right now that the quality of my work is equal whether I get sleep or not, but since I ‘m not keeping any sort of record to defend what I’m saying, you can call bullshit. As for attentiveness,  my attentiveness at meetings is rather high when well rested but rather low when tired. So… By not paying attention at meetings, that action alone can affect how effective I am at producing work and completing projects in a timely manner.

What about the things that I do when I’m up in the middle of the night, am I being productive with myself? No. The tasks that I do while not sleeping in the middle of the night can range from playing games to staring at the ceiling and to something random such as typing up this blog post. Meh.

Well… We are about to go off in a tangent, actually more like rambling. Lack of focus should be one of the traits from the lack of sleep. Actually consumption of alcohol is  an insomnia trait that I wished I currently have. But back to the subject. No. I don’t think that I am just as productive at work when only receiving less than three hours of sleep. I told you to call bullshit. But! I work just as well, if not better, when I receive six hours of sleep or less versus sleep over 6 hours. I don’t want you to think that I don’t like sleeping when the fact is that sleeping is an activity that I do enjoy doing, especially once I am asleep.

I should be asking myself what is in the back of my head that is keeping me up… When I started this new job is about the time when my sleeping pattern shortened. Shh…. Don’t tell my girlfriend, she’ll use it as ammunition to force me to quit. Prior to starting this new job with a new company, I was getting roughly over eight hours of sleep but going to the gym at the same time. New job, no more gym time, equals lack of sleep.

Ha! I found out why I’m still up so late everyday. The reason to the lack of sleep is that I stopped working out and my body just is not ready for bed with all that pent up energy.

After quickly skimming through this post I just realized that we all need a nice vacay and I need sleep.

I do pray that this post makes sense. An English major I am not but worried that this post is garbage. Not sure if I am trying to make a point or not. Hell… I just want four hours of peaceful snoring in bed…

Time to goo mimis.

Happy August!

Iit’s August! The first of August is here which to me that we are 10 days away from seeing the last episodes of Breaking Bad and days away from the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game!

We are just a couple weekends away to the end of a wonderful tv series, Breaking Bad. The mid season finale left us with many questions to what will happen between Walt and Hank, is Jesse back in the game, who’s going to die, and how will it all end? I have so much anxiety built up just from having to wait for the show to begin and as the days grow close, the anxiety level just goes up every day!

As for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, it may just be a preseason game, but it kicks off the start of football! I’m not just excited for the preseason being here but also for college football and the SEC Division dominance and fantasy football drafts happening all over the world. Another reason that I love football because it brings us entertainment, tail gatings, bar b ques, an excuse to drink heavily, fantasy football, camaraderie, betting, and above all thrash talking bragging rights. Can you smell it, the freshly cut of grass? I can!

Are you excited as I am for August? And if you’re not, why?

Happy Hump Day!

It’s Hump Day! Woot! It’s the middle of the work week and the weekend is almost here!  How is everyone’s week going so far?
This past Monday I spent the day napping and getting the much needed rest that my body was asking for from vacationing. Honestly if you can take a day to off to yourself before heading back to work, it is so worth it to both your body and psyche.

Asides from napping I did this:

I wrapped my Gerber Shard in paracord.

I know that doesn’t sound like a productive Monday but I also did some research on Monday as well as on Tuesday on: Kydex, Native American warbonnets, paracords, EL wire, and masks.
Why would I be doing research on those things and how do they relate?

I plan on making a warbonnet to wear for the upcoming Beyond Wonderland in September.

Concept sketches, plans, and details coming soon!

Clear Skies and Sun!

Clear skies in the City

What a wonderful day it is! Beautiful days like this makes me wished that I called in sick to work. To bad I hold myself to a high standard of work ethic to do such a juvenile thing. Plus I am off tomorrow and the sun can wait just one more day.

I hope that everyone else is enjoying the day or at least close to a window to soak up the sun.

Random Wednesday Rant – GOT

Happy Hump Day!

With today being the last Wednesday of the month, this Wednesday can only one thing. Winter is Coming!

Not sure how many of you folks are Game of Thrones fans, and if you’re not you need to get with the program! Watch the series on HBO, so far there has been 2 season that has been produced and published. With only 2 season to catch up, one can get brought to speed by Sunday, when the Third season comes out. Currently each season of GOT covers about 1 book from the GOT book series that was written by George R.R. Martin. There are currently 5 books out with George R.R. Martin planning to write a total of 7 books for the A Song of Ice and Fire series).  Book 3 is one of my favorite book of the series. BAD ASS is the best way that I can describe it.

HBO’s The Game of Thrones returns this Sunday March 31st.

For those of you that does follow the GOT, check out this short webisode series that I stumbled upon on YouTube. It’s called the School of Thrones, an adaption of GOT set in high school. Who ever wrote the show understood the main characters and the plot of the series. The acting is YouTube standard, a tiny bit cheesy, but the intro animation is pretty damn good, and these webisodes are a nice quick fix to those still going through GOT withdraws.

Wild Wednesday Rant

What I’ve learned from watching shows such as the West Wing, The Wire, Boss, along with reading books like Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Animal Farm, Leviathan to name a few, and from life experience. Is that even though we are living in a democratic country, no longer a republic country, lands and titles are still worth as much as they were when the British Monarchy controlled the colonies. The only difference is that instead of Sirs, Lords, and Barons we are using the terms CEO, CTO, VP, Council Member, and so forth. With these titles come a larger paycheck and a better view of the city. One must ask the same question that our fore fathers asked during the British rule over the colonies, what are these modern day lords doing for us?
