COACHELLA!

Coachella. How can I describe Coachella? Wow. That’s the only way that I can describe my experience at Coachella. I know that ‘wow’ is a very vague term but ‘WOW’ is what I am using. Just wow because the experience was memorably good, for the most part (more on that later).

Coachella is not EDC and to compare each other is like comparing Five Guys with In-N-Out, their just two different beasts. Beast is a good word to describe Coachella because that shit kicked my ass. I would do the walk. The walk. THE WALK. The walk to the venue from the streets was forever. Then having to do the same walk home from the venue after hours of jumping and dancing under the sun is no fun.

Now I did ride the pedi cabs all three days, but I was forced to. Forced to pay the $10 – $15 a person for the ride because my gf got a nasty blister on her foot from the walk from where we were staying to the front entrance. Stepping on her bad heel doesn’t help; I swear it was an accident! These rides were short, only a third of the way from where you’re going, so you would have to take multiple rides to get from the venue to the street (49th and Monroe). On the second day we did find out that walking in from 52nd and Monroe is a shorter trip that only required one pedi cab ride but going home we still had to trek through the Yellow Path (49th and Monroe) to get to the taxis/Uber stands. I spent more money on a single pedi cab than I did all weekend using Uber.

Using Uber versus waiting in the taxi line was great! Sucks to those drivers that had to take me home since I was staying across the street, I feel a bit guilty but feeling guilty is better than feeling the wrath of a mad woman that almost ruined her first Coachella experience because I can’t walk straight. The reason I feel a tiny bit guilty, and that’s big of me to say because I HATE taxi/town car/Uber drivers in the City, is because the drivers would have to sit

I’m still exhausted from the whole Coachella experience: drive down and back, the sun, walking for miles, lack of sleep, and being robbed to ride those pedicabs. So I’ll keep this post short and write about one more thing, then I’ll just link the videos that were taken and let you watch and listen to the music that I experienced. Watch those videos, you’ll enjoy them. Plus I know that you’re into voyeurism.

The last takeaway that I have to mention about Coachella was the bomb ass ice cream. OMG! I never knew that ice cream could taste so good! I’ve tasted good ice cream before from Lords to Thriftys to the high priced gluten free ice cream from gourmet food trucks that can be found at Off The Grid. The folks from Salt & Straw drove all the way from Portland to Indio just to share the Earth’s best ice cream. Thank you! I’m not going to lie, I was skeptic at first looking at the price: $7 for a single and $10 for a double scoop. My gf was craving something sweet and I felt bad for stepping on her heel, so took a leap of fate and paid the highway robbery price for a double scoop cone of ice cream. How good was the ice cream? Let’s just say that we got ice cream every single day and didn’t even blink at the price. That’s how good it was. Next time you’re in Portland stop by their shop, there are three Salt & Straw locations. You can thank me later.

Now the music… Well some of it. I’m taking forever uploading videos onto Youtube. I’ll post more videos in the coming days.

EDC Day 2, OMG!

What another awesome day at EDC! W started the day a little late, didn’t get past the gate till about ten but still managed to see a ton of headliners and have some fun.

On a tiny journalist news reporting note, there was a small isolated fire last night that involved a golf cart, which was probably caused by a short circuit. Firefighters responded to the scene quickly and were able to extinguish the flame before anyone could get hurt and too damper the mood of the revelers.

I did make a small time lapse that didn’t turn out to well due to the lighting condition. However if you’d like to view the time-lapse video, you can view it here.

When we got back to our hotel we checked out the Bamboo Pool here at the Cosmopolitan where we played around with the GoPro to get some cool and neat shots. Now I’m off to get some rest; it’s about noon and hasn’t slept since we got back.

EDC Day 1

First day of EDC was amazing, music and venue was to die for, but very hot. Couldn’t stay under the Circuit Grounds to long cause of the heat trapped under the tent. I stayed well hydrated and had to step away from the stages a few times to cool down. Wished that my GoPro battery hadn’t died, or invested in a second battery pack, because I was unable to capture as much video as I would have like. I did miss the large meet up yesterday at 9 and was disappointed about that, was in the middle of R3hab’s set where I lost the track of time. Anyway, had a blast and still have 2 more days of amazing experience to look forward to!

The New Myspace: Like An Old High School Buddy

Just like that high school buddy that left town to attend college and now is back with a degree. That person is still the same guy from high school but more refined but still ever a good friend.

Well, Myspace is back along with a new look. Forget the look, Myspace is be back with a whole new experience.

Last week I requested for an invite to the New Myspace and last night I got invited to join the New Myspace!

You’re invited to Join the New Myspace

I’ve set up my profile, https://new.myspace.com/johnydecali, uploaded a couple pics, connected to some music, and added a couple folks to my Top 8.

Wow! I haven’t messed with Top 8 in a minute lol. Facebook has something like Top 8 called Close Friends but it ain’t like Top 8 where you can display who is in your Top 8 to your friends and trolls that cruise your page.

There’s so much that I want to write about and yet I feel that I still have so much to experience w/ the New Myspace that I don’t want to be to judgmental from my initial test drive of the site. So I’ll just mention a few quick things that are both good and bad.

Let’s first talk about lagging. One would be able to pan horizontally through their stream and what ever they were looking at should populate. Below is how my stream should appear.

My stream feed on the New Myspace.

However with either my connection lagging or the New Myspace server having issues, I was receiving content that was not fully uploaded. Below you can see the same exact screen from above but rather with the upload issue, which was intermittent. If any of you are having the same issues, please let me know because it would be great to know that I’m not alone with this problem. Thanks.

Content not fully uploaded from the server.

Besides the uploading issue, everything is great!

It took me a few seconds to familiarize myself with the UI and get into the habbit of simply hitting escape to close out the pop up windows. Panning horizontally versus the usual vertical style web page seems intuitive, especially since the wheel on the mouse already knows to go from left to right on horizontal websites.

The music features are pretty nice. I like how one can have the music play and have the control bar anchored to the bottom of the web page. You have the options of having a queue of songs play, music video play, or connected to a “radio station” where one would get a feed of the selected artist. If you have a music video playing, by default, it appears full screen but you can quickly minimize the video and that video plants itself to the bottom left of the screen.

Fullscreen: Linkin Park – Burn it Down
Minimized: Mike Shinoda going off at the bottom right of the screen.

With the ability of playing both songs, videos, and being a social website the New Myspace may kill sites like Pandora or Last.fm as a source of streaming music.

Unlike Facebook, where you go on a liking spree and Like a ton of stuff from your feed, the New Myspace does not have a like button. Neither did the original Myspace. But there is a connect button that appears in the form of 2 circles that intersect. When you connect to a person or subject, a portion of the circle gets shaded in. When the other person connects back to you, the 2 circles combine into a single circle to represent how each of you fully connect.

Is connecting the equivalent as a “Like” button? For now I am going to have to say yes.

Below is Scholar Apparel’s New Myspace stream that shows that they have been listening to music and connecting with people.

School Apparel’s stream.

The New Myspace is somewhat similar to Twitter, in the same sense that you only have a limited amount of characters to enter a post or leave a comment. But the New Myspace took it up a notch above twitter by adding an additional of ten characters. To some folks that is a lot, to me it does. But whatever.

Are we going to see the end of Facebook? Google+? Twitter? Who knows but my money is no. People will adapt and so shall Facebook. And in truth, there are so many social media sites that it is a challenge to keep them all up to date. But I do like how the New Myspace appears to be more polished that Facebook.

Let me know what you think of the whole New Myspace and if you’d like to connect to me, just click here.

Live105 Spookfest 2012

This past Friday, Live 105 held their 4th annual Spookfest, the Bay Area subsonic Halloween massive event at Oakland‘s Oracle Arena.  All I have to say is “Damn! This shit was off the hook!”

Live105 Spookfest Subsonic Halloween Massive

Got to the Oracle Arena right before 8 so the first set that I caught was from Benny Bennasi. After Benny was R3HAB. Then Datsik for for all the dubstep folks in the arena. Finally we had Calvin Harris to close out the night.

Enjoying the sets
The Lights
Some fire
And great company!
Where’s Waldo?
Thank you LIVE105 for Spookfest!

What a night! Wished that Spookfest lasted longer than 1 am. Oh well.

Up next POP NYE!
